Shaping shorts: flat stomach, invisible under dresses
The shaping short is the piece to wear under a bodycon dress, an evening gown, or a summer outfit when you want an instant flat stomach without it showing. It covers the thighs, prevents chafing, and doesn't ride up, unlike classic panties. At Twinswomen, the range goes from size 36 to 52 with gentle compression, flat seams, and breathable materials. The result: you forget you're wearing it all day long.
Introduction
A shaping short is the undergarment you slip under a dress without a second thought, and that you never see. Where shaping panties stop at the hips, the shorts go down the thighs: no more riding up, no more chafing, no more lines under the fabric.
At Twinswomen, we designed our collection of shaping shorts for all body types, from size 36 to 52. Because invisibility under a dress shouldn't be reserved for smaller sizes.
Shaping panties are effective on the stomach and hips, but they stop there. As soon as you move, walk, or sit, they can ride up. And under a short or bodycon dress, that quickly becomes awkward.
The shaping short solves three problems at once.
1. It covers the thighs. The upper thigh area is often the most exposed under a summer dress or an evening gown. The shorts hold and smooth it, without a "sausage" effect.
2. It doesn't ride up. Thanks to its length and anti-slip silicone bands on the legs, the shorts stay in place from 8 AM to 10 PM. No adjustments needed throughout the day.
3. It protects against chafing. Thighs rubbing together, summer heat, long days on your feet: the shaping short also acts as an anti-chafing thigh short, without adding bulk under the dress.
For those who only want to support the stomach and hips without covering the thighs, shaping panties remain an excellent option. But for a bodycon dress or an evening outfit, shorts are more versatile.
In summary: shaping panties = targeted stomach/hip support. Shaping shorts = complete solution for stomach + thighs + anti-chafing comfort.

The shaping short is the most versatile choice. It suits 90% of situations: summer dress, office dress, evening wear.
Shaping panties are perfect under trousers or a skirt, when the thighs are not exposed. See our shaping panties collection.
The shaping body short offers the most complete support: stomach, waist, bust, but requires a little more organization for toilet breaks. See our flat tummy shaping body collection.
Our flat tummy shaping body short combines the advantages of both: upper body support + thigh coverage, with no visible seams.
Invisible shaping short under a dress: how does it work?
Invisibility is not by chance. It relies on three precise technical elements.
Materials: polyamide + elastane, the winning duo
Polyamide is a lightweight, soft-touch, abrasion-resistant synthetic fiber. It dries quickly, doesn't wrinkle, and retains its shape wash after wash. Elastane (also known as Lycra® or spandex) provides elasticity: it can stretch up to several times its length without losing its shape.
Together, they create a fabric that hugs the body without compressing it, breathes all day long, and doesn't show through thin fabrics.
The proportion of elastane matters. The higher it is, the more shaping the fabric is and the better it recovers its shape. For everyday shaping shorts, a blend of around 80% polyamide / 20% elastane is ideal: sufficiently shaping without being oppressive.
Flat seams or seamless technology
Classic seams create visible bumps under a bodycon dress. Flat seams (or seamless technology) eliminate this problem. The fabric is knitted in a circular fashion: no join, no bulge, no marks.
This is the #1 criterion to check before buying shaping shorts to wear under a dress.
Anti-ride-up silicone bands
Silicone bands on the leg edges keep the shorts in place without tight elastic. The result: the shorts don't ride up, even after a long day or a dancing evening.
Which dress to wear it under?
Bodycon dress: choose nude or flesh-colored shorts: they disappear under light fabrics and thin materials.
Evening or wedding dress: high-waisted shaping shorts are perfect. They smooth the stomach and hips without creating a bulge at the waist.
Light summer dress: opt for a model in breathable material, lightly shaping, primarily for anti-chafing comfort.
Black or dark dress: black shorts are undetectable.
Plus size shaping shorts: from 36 to 52, the criteria that change everything
Finding plus size shaping shorts is often a huge challenge. Brands stop at size 46, offer models that are too compressive, or elastics that dig in. We decided to do things differently.
Compression should be adapted, not aggressive.
Plus size shaping shorts that are too tight are uncomfortable and create bulges where you didn't want them. Ideal compression is soft to moderate: it smooths without compressing, holds without oppressing. You should be able to wear it for 10 hours without thinking about it.
Bands should be wide.
Thin elastics cut into the skin, especially in plus sizes. Wide, flat bands distribute pressure over a larger surface. No red marks at the end of the day.
The material must breathe.
In plus sizes, body heat is often higher. Quality polyamide/elastane fabric wicks away moisture and dries quickly: essential for staying comfortable all day, summer or winter.
Support must be stable, not fluctuating.
Good plus size shaping shorts don't roll, slip, or ride up. The length on the thighs and the silicone bands are the two guarantees of stability.

💬 My Twinswomen opinion
Going up to size 52 isn't just "adding fabric". It's rethinking the cut, the tension of the bands, the position of the waistband. Most brands stop at 46 because it's technically simpler. We made the opposite choice: to test each model on real body types from 36 to 52 before putting it online. Because shaping shorts that don't deliver on their promise in size 50 aren't good shaping shorts: they're just shaping shorts for a select few.
FAQ: Your questions about shaping shorts
What's the difference between shaping shorts and shaping panties?
Shaping panties cover the stomach and hips but stop at the top of the thighs. Shaping shorts go down the thighs: they prevent chafing, don't ride up under a dress, and offer more complete coverage. For a bodycon dress or an evening outfit, shorts are generally more suitable. For daily wear under trousers, panties are sufficient.
Do shaping shorts ride up under a dress?
Quality shaping shorts do not ride up. The two key elements: the length on the thighs (which creates natural resistance) and the anti-slip silicone bands on the leg edges. If your shorts ride up, it's often because they are too large (not enough tension) or they don't have silicone bands.
How to choose your shaping short size?
Measure your waist and hips. Always refer to the brand's size guide: sizes vary depending on cuts and compression levels. If in doubt between two sizes, take the larger one: shorts that are too tight create bulges and are uncomfortable. Well-fitting shorts should hold without squeezing.
Can you wear shaping shorts all day long?
Yes, provided you choose a model made of breathable material (polyamide/elastane) with soft to moderate compression. Quality shaping shorts are forgotten after a few minutes. If you experience discomfort, cutting, or excessive heat after 2-3 hours, the model is not suitable for your body type or the size is not correct.
Shaping shorts or shaping body short: which is more invisible?
The shaping body short is slightly more invisible because it has no edge at the waist: it goes up to the bust. No risk of seeing a line under a bodycon dress. However, it is less practical for toilet breaks. The shaping short is easier for daily use and remains very discreet with flat seams or seamless technology.
Are shaping shorts suitable for plus sizes?
Absolutely. The Twinswomen collection goes from 36 to 52. Plus size models are designed with wide anti-cut bands, adapted (not aggressive) compression, and breathable materials. The goal: stable support all day long, without marks and without discomfort. Consult our body shape guide to choose the right model for your silhouette.
How to care for your shaping shorts?
Wash at 30 °C maximum by hand or machine (delicate cycle)
No fabric softener: it coats the elastane fibers and reduces elasticity
No tumble drying: heat damages synthetic fibers
Dry flat or on a hanger, in the open air
No ironing on the silicone bands
Careful maintenance significantly extends the life of the fabric and maintains the shaping effect.
Shaping shorts under a bodycon dress: do they show?
No, if you choose the right model. The criteria for invisibility: flat or seamless seams (no relief under the fabric), appropriate color (flesh/nude under light tones, black under dark tones), and thin material that doesn't create bulk. Avoid models with thick seams or lace edges under a very bodycon dress.
